Break from Running (Lifting + Abs)

March 5, 2017 (Night)

Exercise Type: Weights

Comments:
I've recently not been enjoying running as much as I used to. I met with Coach B last week after the excellence ceremony at Kulp, and he more or less told me that I shouldn't be running if I feel like I "have to." I agree with that. IMO, running should be overall a good experience for me. That's not to say I should enjoy every second of it. Let me know if there's someone that enjoys every step of a race. And with training, there needs to be pain and discomfort in order to improve. But, I think I just need to rediscover why it is that I run. Maybe I'm getting too deep here, but I'd rather not be forcing myself to get out and run 5-7 days a week, only to not be able to wait until each run is over. So, for now, I'm going to take a short break until I feel like running again. It's not that I'm not a motivated person. If there's something that I enjoy, I'm motivated to be as good as I can at whatever that is. I just don't enjoy running anymore. Also, I've been dealing with some health complications that have impacted my running and training ever since track of last year, causing me to miss several meets. I would rather not have a very stressful next few months of track. I need to focus on my academics as well. Perhaps I'll do XC though.

Anyway, tonight I did:
Shot some hoops outside until I couldn't feel my hands
2x20 overhead dumbbell press (25 total lbs.)
30 bicep curls, both arms at once (25 total lbs.)
2x12 squats (30 total lbs.)
51 leg lifts
120 total cherry-pickers
Plyometric box jumps
1 minute of jump roping
31 pushups
61 calf raises on ladder rung, both legs at once
