This is gonna be a long one

Got to the start line at 6am got water, used the bathroom, hid behind a wall for cover from the wind. Started out rolling with my plan-warm up the first 6 ~8:45 then pick it up. Isabel and India Hopped in at 5, with Anthony joining shortly after. And Ellie and India at Calvert hill. Unfortunately, didn't go quite as planned. Had some major stomach pain + cramping at the bottom of Calvert. Had to stop twice for the bathroom between 6-9 and got pretty dehydrated in the process. Honestly around 11 I was getting a little worried with dehydration and a potential calf cramp, but just kept rolling with what I had in me. Gu's, water, and Anthony seemed to get me past it. May, Isabel, and Sarah hopped in a little before 13 and by 14.5 was feeling a lot better. Was still hesitant to really push, at this point, I just wanted to stay even and finish. But oh my goodness it was so much fun. I guess this part was my chattiest since I was feeling my best, had so much fun with those three. Both of my parents were around 15 which was a really lovely surprise., Anthony hopped out when we did the out and back and stayed with my parents. Kept my eye on American Flag people, kept going back and forth. Anthony popped back in then we did the windy stretch along the river. One more stop at 20, then the three stepped out and Abigail, Sara, Jackson and Matt popped in. So much energy from these 4 they were ready to go. Did a loop of the park without Anthony then met Ana a little before 22. This began the tricky part of the race but we kept passing people and the pack was incredible. The hill was hard and lost a bit of time, but not punishing. I kept thinking I've run many runs with Ana so I will just stay in her rhythm. And we got up to the top and ran down the hill with a gorgeous view of the monument. The last 2.5 miles are a bit of a blur, people were glowing and I was empty, but the pack kept rolling, and I kept on. Pretty beautiful sight running towards the stadium. Uphill finish was tough, I heard May, Isabel and Sarah and the pack stepped out. Last bit was me, somehow, I have no idea how, I had a kick at the end. Becca was right at the finish and took care of my post marathon brain and met up with the group and Abe at gear check.

So grateful to have Anthony through out mile 5 to mile 26. That was so impressive.

I know I'm going to do another marathon (after a couple days off :) ) Perhaps in different circumstances the time would have been better. But what is so beautiful is that it doesn't matter at all right now, I am just so happy right now. If I had done this in December, I would have done this alone. But I've run so many races alone or battling through no mans land. Between the names on my arms and the pack of hoppers that carried me through-this time I wasn't alone. I'm going to remember this for a really really long time.
