30,000 runners for a 5K! Well, there were 30,000 participants in about 5 events from family run/walk to competitive 5K. The Houston chapter contributes over $3 million annually to the Koman fund. But, I heard this group contributes to Planned Parenthood, so I'm not so thrilled about that.
I'm basically in the 7 min/mile shape. It's likely the result of inconsistent milage and no speed work. So, we'll see where I go from here.
One note: The race was so crowded at the start, and of course I lined up in the 6:30/mile corral and everyone else there was 10:00/mile pacers. Idiots. Why not go to the proper corral? It kills me. I was boxed in for over a half mile. Then I probably ran a really fast second 1/2 mile to hit my mile one target pace. Super crowded race. I was getting box in still in mile 3. Hard to PR, but only made a small difference for me in terms of overall time, really. I know the shape I'm in and that time is indiciative despite the tough start.
1-6:54
2-6:52
3-7:15
.1-:49 (6:59 pace)
Overall 21:50 (same time as Liberty 5k but this time a flat course...thus, I'm down from July fitness.)
