Fleet Feet mile time trial. I was feeling on the fence about going, then when I decided I should go, I began to feel nervous. I had spoken with Chris V. on the phone beforehand, and I was sort of 'down' from that convo as well.
This was my first mile time trial since college.
We did about a mile warmup. I did some drills and strides as well. I went in the second heat (the 6:00-7:30 heat). I wasn't really sure what I was going to run, but I felt confident to run at least 6:00 or faster. It was an actual mile, not a 1600 so we started a bit behind the start/finish line. I ended up running much slower than I anticipated, and I went out way too fast!
I went out in a 68. Even in my racing days, I had never gone out in a 68 before. Perhaps I would go out in a 68 for the 800 but never for the mile.
Anyways, I obviously slowed down a bunch after that wild first lap. My splits were: 68, 2:52, 4:30, 6:10.
That's 1:08, 1:44, 1:38, 1:40.
I want to do it again and pace myself.
After all three heats of the mile, coach Kyle told us to do 4 x 400 meters at roughly 5K pace. I ran with Melissa Vinton and Megan, and we ran a bit faster each time 1:37, 1:35, 1:31, 1:25.
We then did a 1/2 mile cool down.
