Elmira Duel Meet

May 9, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I wasn't very mentally prepared for this meet because i had kind of a rough night on Monday so all day I didn't feel like I had to race later. I didn't get a lot of sleep and I didnt pack so in the morning I just threw a bunch of stuff in a bag and later I realized I forgot but spikes so I was freaking out but then I guess I had left them in the teamroom. My back was killing me all day so I rolled out and lay down for a bit to get it to relax. Ingrid and I realized that we didn't have as much time as we thought, so we shortened the warmup to 5 and 5. I got out to the front with some girl named Mattie and I felt really good for the first lap. I definitely could feel myself getting nervous about being in front but I didn't really have time to think about it. At the 200 one of the Elmira coaches yelled out that we were at 36 and I was like omg I can't keep this pace, even though that's not bad. I heard girls close behind me and all i could think was they're gonna pass me. Also when I heard people cheer for mattie I was like oh crap she's really fast even though I don't even know who she is. THen when she passed me I just picture falling further and further behind her but then I was like no! I have to stay with her I can't give up just cause she passed me. Like I kept trying to freak myself out and shake my confidence which I have been really aware of in races lately. I just focused on going faster instead of the bad parts of the race and I made the decision that I could beat Mattie instead of losing her and I went with that and I passed her. I felt good about my time but I think I can go faster. Also I didn't even realize that Olivia Lovejoy was in the race, which is good because I wouldn't have thought that I could beat her but I'm really glad I did. Ingrid and I did a 5 minute cooldown/warmup for the 4x400. We found out that we had already lost the meet at that point which was really upsetting. I thought we were doing really well at least on the track. I was the 3rd leg, it felt pretty slow and reallyyyy long like it didn't feel very hard but I was just like halfway through like wow how am I not done yet. We did a cooldown and cleaned up the senior night decorations.
