Gearing Up

June 14, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
First run back. Legs feel decently fresh, although I expected them to be fresher. I cramped up and my stomach hurt the whole time. It was the expected amount of discomfort. I made a loop of Sangamore and MacArthur, using the Waldorf School as a cut-through. The plus side of the run was the new shoes, complete with the wide toe box and low drop, which supposedly will help me with my stride, forcing me to land more squarely on my foot instead of my heel, and stopping me from pointing my toes out when I run. I like them a lot, but I will plan to phase them in as they are radically different from my old shoes.

I'm starting training now--three days before I'm at Becket for 9 weeks--because I want to give myself even more of an incentive to run at camp and put in the extra effort logistically to make it work. I owe it to myself and most of all to the team to find a way to make it work this summer, even if that means not running every day and for only 30 mins max each run. That'll be better than the zero running I did last summer. I'll get a good fitness base from all of the other physical activities I'll be doing, and I plan to run at night after my campers are asleep (or maybe in the morning? We'll see...)Check back for some Becket logs! Good luck to everyone else in their training this summer. You all motivate me.
