test run

July 10, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
after my parents didn't let me run at 6am as planned (due to whatever medical condition has been causing my fatigue), I was concerned that an evening run would be bad. I spent the morning falling asleep at my desk and only perked up after some caffeine. So I figured the heat would do me in, but I actually ended up feeling quite good. Rhianna ran to my house (she's doing more miles than me this week) and we did a slight modification of our usual night loop. We were debating whether or not we should do a workout so we decided to test it out for 2 min and not do it if we weren't feeling it. I think we both felt better than expected and I forgot to check my watch till 2 and a half min in so we just decided to do the workout. It was 3x8min at cruise (still don't know exactly what it is, I just think of it as slightly easier than tempo) with 2 min recovery. The first 8 min flew by and felt great (pace around 7:40ish). Second interval was also pretty good (similar pace, maybe a bit slower). Third was fine, not as good as the other two but still not too bad (7:50ish). It was a steep downhill for the first minute then a slight uphill for the remaining 7 minutes, which isn't really steep enough to even call an uphill but it was enough to be kind of annoying. The first two I found it easy to talk and we kind of chatted, especially in the first, and then the third was more like what tempo effort should be- short sentences here and there. I felt like I could have gone faster and I was pleased that it felt so smooth. Definitely my best workout of the summer and very gratifying after feeling frustrated after a couple of weeks of bad runs. Also really nice to not have any breathing issues. planks, clams, and bridges when I got home.
