Sara, Mike, Ryan (Sara's bro), and I headed up to SM for the annual summit - or in my case, the annual double-summit - which, if I was feeling solid, was gonna push it to a triple.
Started the climb off pretty smooth - Sara and Ryan were out in front due to my Garmin being "ratch" and not picking up signal for several minutes. Anywho, it was clear near the top that the cumulative fatigue from last week - and especially Sunday's run - was still in my legs. Toward the top, it's .25 and climbs 400' - foolish to run it even with fresh legs so it was a good hoof up to the top where Sara was waiting (I never even caught her! She did like a 36min summit, which, for a 2.2mi/1900' climb - solid). I only managed a 35:57, decent, but a bit off my 34:10 PR (where I ran everything on that attempt back in '14). Interesting.
On the descent, super weird but I became HUNGZ! Huh? I ate a solid breakfast, but maybe the Cliff Bar for lunch wasn't quite enough. Luckily, I had another Cliff Bar - threw that down - and headed back up. Interestingly enough, this 2nd attempt felt really good, everything was warmed up and I just chipped my way back up. Hit 37min for the second attempt - I'll take it! And to get in some more vert, ran back down to the saddle and hiked back up again to snag 400' more.
Easy descent back down (QWAADZ starting to feel the 4k' of vert now - thats a lot for me currently) and met the fam back at Public House Brewery for a celebratory beer and BOMB burger (1/2lb patty, pepper jack, avocado, jalepenos, + fried egg).
Good day! Although, now I'm questioning whether CB to Seaside would be wise - with the trail thrashed in some parts, it could be close to a 4hr run .. Hmmmm ... 3hr's would probably be wise.
4300' vert total.
