Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
First long run of the season with my club, the Boston Athletic Asociation (BAA), out on the historic battle road along which the Red Coats retreated after the battles of Lexington and Concord. If you're ever in the Boston area, its a beautiful stretch of woods in Minute Man National Park, with 18th-century log houses, graves of British soldiers, and plaques marking skirmishes and the place where Paul Revere was captured. The weather was perfect and we cruised along at a brisk clip, staying within sight of the women's "high-performance squad," a group of recent D1 college graduates that the club sponsors to run professionally and who causally cruise at a 7-minute pace on their easy days. I really love running over the wooden boardwalks through the marshes - its puts such pep in your stride! We added on a bunch of miles through some connecting trails by cutting through cemetery and backyard, and then on the way back one of the guys wanted to tempo at 6:45 which really was between 6:00 and 6:30 for the last six miles. I held on for almost 5k, but then backed off. Longest run in a year!
