San Mateo to SFO

September 5, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Ran from my sister's new place in San Mateo up the coast to San Francisco International Airport where I hung out for 10 minutes watching the planes take off and land. You can stamp right up behind the fence so you really feel the rumble of the planes in your chest! Admittedly, not nearly as cool as the airport in St. Martin in the Carribean, where, according to some impressive YouTube videos, people like to hang onto the fence and let the force of the jet engine blast them half into the air and it starts down the runway (sadly, that airport was destroyed this week by hurricanes Irma and Jose). I ran back along the beach, getting pretty tired toward the end, and ultimately took a break to swim in San Francisco Bay (questionable decision - I definitely showered after). There's a gorgeous park in San Mateo overlooking the bay where I stopped and relaxed for about 20 minutes in utter silence, just looking out over the bay and thinking about the coming year. All in all, a great adventure run with some memorable discoveries.
