September 26, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Super humid and uncomfortably warm, despite the fact that we didn't start the workout till well after sundown. My delightful second-fastest group from the last few weeks failed to materialize. Or rather, most of them were there, so either they weren't pushing themselves as much or I'm just in better shape than I've been. In any case, I was rather alone for nearly the entire workout, within a straight-away but not usefully close to the top group with a couple stragglers too far behind me to help out with pacing. Still, I managed to push through. We had the option of doing 4 to 6 of the 1000s, but I told myself from the get-go that I've been training for too many weeks now to use the "I'm not in shape yet" excuse, so I committed to doing all six. The last one I did with a slightly longer recovery (200m walking instead of jogging) and completely self-timed since everyone else had either called it a day before that or started before me. Miraculously, it was my fastest by 9 seconds! I guess I really was using the people ahead of my for pacing purposes all along. Once I was no longer looking at that big pack telling myself they were too fast and I needed to let a gap open between me and them, I really discovered that my body was ready for more than I'd been giving it credit for. Still, I'm glad I ran the whole thing the way I did. It was, after all, supposed to be lactaid threshold (10k?) pace and not a race.

Hurdle mobility drills afterward. Left hamstring tightened up during the workout and was really tight on the walk/jog home.
