As I warmed up, my first thought was to do a fartlek, but man, I was feeling good and could tell the body was primed for a good workout based on last weeks work + the preceding easy days.
So, went with an 8k tempo. Started out at 5:45 pace and it felt like 6:30 pace. SerZ? Wasn't even breathing laboriously at all. So, wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke so I kept it at 5:45 again. Alright, still feeling like I'm not working!
Ok, "It's ON!". Let the pace come to me and dropped down to 5:30 for the 3rd mile (17:0x through 3mi's) and once I hit 3mi's, felt like I could close well. Hit a 5:20 4th mi (21:0x through 6k) and 5:16 last mile! It was the last mile I noticed my breathing pick up, but legs felt STRONG! And what was cool was that my glutes were working! No hamstring or quad fatigue. Clutch. Felt like I could've gone 2 miles more or even dropped a 5-flat mile that last mile if needed. Pretty cool. Maybe Tue's run was right on. Maybe my fitness is insane right now? Will that translate to 100mi success? Impossible to predict! lol ... But at least the fitness is there.
8k split: 27:31 (16 sec off my Lifetime PR! Geez ... Crazy to think I could go sub-27 for an 8k right now if I actually raced).
5mi's in 27:41
