Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
It's over. I'm not sure how I feel about this season ending. A few quick notes on my race. Went out in 6 flat, per my plan, and felt really good. I was in the zone and feeling strong, but not overtaxed, and then at 1.25, I just slowed down. I knew that I had slowed down and could have been going faster, but couldn't pick it up. 2 mile in 12:32, 3.11 in 19:51.

I've been doing some thinking back on this season. I ran 558.59 miles this season(Summer/Fall) I think back to my first run of the season, that run home from school on June 5th, and remember how awful I felt and how I committed myself to a summer of training. I think back to those illicit runs through Glover, and to running in the torrential rains of late July. I remember waking up early to tour the south through running, to scaling Maryland Heights on that glorious August morning, to being the sole Poropotank at camp. I think back to catching Anthony in foxes and hounds and the rainy days of September and the scorching meet days of October. I recall riding on a bear with Captain Jack and Satola, and to not being able to run there in Rock Creek Park.
Its been an interesting season, very different from last year. I was disappointed with the vast majority of my races again this season. It has now been 6 seasons of this. It is frustrating to see the effort I put in not translate to significantly better times. I really haven't gotten further in my quest to discover the root cause of my racing issue. It's a combination of a cardio/leg strength imbalance, a lack of desire to fight, a mental racing block and warm weather. I have structured my racing thoughts differently this year. I have not allowed myself to think about my races, except on Saturdays. This means I have to manufacture a drive to run fast at the line, but also means I can get over a bad race. I've also had a very different season. Last year, I started strong and was let down, but got some modest closure with my last race. This year, I disappointed myself throughout, but did run well at Third Battle. Thus, I was let down at the end of the season, and left without closure. It feels weird. Also, I miss DC/MD.
With that, I will be back for winter track. It's been another great season.
