Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
I had high hopes for today's 10k race, but after a mile my legs were not there.
Race started at 9:00am, and I got there just in time. Literally no warmup. It was a new, small, low-budget turkey trot so I knew there wasn't going to be any competition.
For the first mile I felt good and came through in a 5:22, just what I wanted. But then I ascended each mile after that. My lungs felt great, but my shin and calf muscles have never hurt this much in a race. My next miles were the following:
5:36
5:37 (5k 7:12)
5:42
5:52
5:43
and then I ran a fairly quick last .21 miles in 54 seconds. The whole thing ended up feeling like a tempo run aerobically, but a painful race for my legs.
I'm alright with the race. I gave it all that my legs could today. Time sucked, but whatever. After the race I talked with some guy who ran for UPenn's club and was at Nats in 2014 when he was a senior.
Now to take some much needed rest from running. I'll be back Monday!
