Dartmouth Relays

First Race!!! Hannah, Katie, David, Evan and I drove 2 hours to Dartmouth to race! Hannah and I were in the mile together and were seeded at the same time so we were in the same heat fortunately. I was super nervous beforehand and couldn't believe I had voluntarily signed up for it. It was around -6 outside so we warmed up inside doing little circles around some turf. did some drills but didnt have tons of time because our race got called. we were in the 4th heat (meet was a weird mix of d1, d3, and club teams) so I was worried I was getting too cool during that time but it ended up being fine. finally we got called to the line and the race went off. I let people pass me in the first turn, not wanting to get too caught up in the start. Almost immediately, one of my shoes came untied. I basically spent the first 800 focusing on keeping my shoe on and worrying about when I could/should leave it. at around 800 my shoe finally came off and i realized I hadn't been very focused and had been pretty slow. I came through that 800 in like 3:03 so I figured I should pick it up a bit. I was feeling really fine at that point and I knew I should be feeling worse so I definitely picked it up a lot in the second half. it would have been nice to have a shoe but I still managed to pass everyone in the field except for Hannah during the second half of the race. It was fun to get to pass so much and feel pretty good. even at the end I didn't feel that bad and I know that if I had been more focused and kept both shoes on I could have pushed myself more and run faster. all in all, a good experience and its really nice to know there's a lot more in me than this. I'm getting excited to race again in 2 weeks!!
