Intrasquad Meet 2018

January 17, 2018 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Indoor Track

Comments:
Well today was both a good day and a meh day. Here is a recap of the race day.

Warm up: After getting out of my GLS meeting at 8:33pm (RIP, I thought it might get out early), I ran some miserable backpack mileage from the international center to Jenison. I didn't count it. Hence the extra 0.4 at the bottom. Definitely counting it.

After that, I did a little less than 12 minute warm up. The 600m had already started, so I watched that. Surprisingly Austin Coha came back and won for the boys. Some unexpected stuff. Normally, I would run the 600m but I knew I'd be late so I decided to focus on the 2K today.

2000m: Well, I thought the girls were running first, but I guess we ran first? So I didn't get a chance to actually stretch or do strides but oh well. This race went just as planned anyways. I just sat behind BJ (sorry fam) and waited until 800m to go to make a surge. We went through the mile in well under 4:50 which I was happy with. With 2 laps to go, I kind of had to poo. But I managed to push through out and hold out for the W and the club record. To be fair, the old record was pretty weak, but I'll take it. (Sorry Tall Paul, I still love you if you're reading this)

4x400: 10-15 minutes after the 2000m, I anchored the 4x400 with a team of Lucas, Austin, and Red Cap. I was a bit tired but still managed to pull out a 57, which I was happy with. I don't know my 200 split but I felt like I picked it up on the second lap so that was good.

Guess your mile: Well, I put down 5:10. Little did I know, the race started not even 5 minutes after I ran the 4x400 lol. I tried to go out with BJ but that didn't happen. I pretty much cruised until 800m to go when Wes and maybe Alec (I couldn't tell who it was, sorry!!!) came up on me. I decided to surge there and then kind of kick in the last 200. I dicked it in a 5:25, but hey I just finished 2 races back to back, so definitely a decent workout effort.

So pretty much the races I cared about all went well. However, Paolo did an official timed mile after the Guess Your Mile and clocked a new club record of 4:27. I'm happy for him, but disappointed that I lost the record. But records were meant to be broken, so major congratulations to Paolo, he's definitely an animal.

So some records were won, some records were lost, but all and all it was a good start to the season. Looking forward to racing the mile at Jet's next weekend.
