Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
This whole event was just a meme. It started off with Lucas (who is VP Ops and runs this kind of stuff for the club) being really late and there was great disorganization. But I mean, what else do you expect from this club. I helped with all of the timing until the 2k.
Ah, the 2k. I went into this with a WEAK mentality knowing that Riley would beat me no matter what. That's real soft. Riley passed me at like 1200m, opened up a 3 second gap, and just stayed there. I probs could have chased him down but I didn't feel like it. And @TallPaul, your record was actual garbage.
I then ran the guess-your-mile. I guessed 4:59 and ran 4:59. Wes also was spot on; he guessed 5:40 and ran 5:40. But the tie breaker would be whoever had the faster time so I declare myself the undisputed winner. I then didn't do any cooldown because Steven Smith and Lucas wanted to go out for a boozer again and Lucas was calling me soft for not wanting to go, so I went anyway. Continue reading this log here if you want to read about my thoughts on EL bar business:
Studying how the EL bars compete for business is something really interesting. So in years past, Dublin has been THE place to go on Wednesday nights. I remember last year getting in line at 11:00pm and not getting inside until 11:45pm because it was THAT popular. And there was ALWAYS $5 cover. But times have changed. Beginning this year, Harper's attempted to steal the Wednesday business by advertising cheaper drinks and has been largely successful. Last week, there was a ridiculous line to get into Harper's and almost no line to Dublin. We went to Dublin and it was actually still lit and we had a great time. But last night we decided to go to Harper's for something different and there was no line.
So we get in at a bit past 11:00pm and find Dietrich and Ben Richardson there at like 11:30pm. They told us they came from Dublin because there was only like 25 people there! And they didn't pay any cover! What! Unreal. Dublin on Wednesdays has always been my favorite bar night. Sad to see it going down. No one goes to Dublin on any other night. Wednesday nights were Dublin's THING. but this is capitalist America; Harper's has cheaper drinks (long island is $3 at Harpers and $4 at Dublin), so I'm thinking the only way Dublin survives is if they drop prices too. Or advertise no cover, because Harper's does indeed have cover.
