Half of the USMC Marathon

October 25, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Perfect!

Comments:
As part of the Archdiocese of Washington's Run for Vocations to support Priests and seminarians, I signed on a few months ago to run the first 13.1 miles of the MCM. Since injuring my achilles tendon about two and a half weeks ago, I had less than four miles. I was really worried about this run. Anyhow, I showed up anyway and ran (or jogged!) 15 miles. After our 13.1 miles, we had to run another 1.9 miles to the 15 mile point to meet up with our team. This is a way cool event, but it's so crowded that getting a low time (I wasn't going to anyway) is difficult. It took me 18 minutes to reach the starting line and I was in a crowd the entire way. I felt really good for the first five or so miles and passed as many slower runners as I could (people are afraid of hills and these hills are incredibly easy compared to what I'm used to). From about 5-11 miles pain started to creep in and I got slower. From 11-15 miles was pretty agonizing and I was glad to stop! I hope to do the full marathon in 2010, injury free and properly trained!
