BU Valentine

February 9, 2018 (Night)

Comments:
After a delay leaving town and some traffic along the way, we arrived at BU with little time to spare. We had about 20-30 minutes to warm up and I was very stressed about being ready in time. We did make it to the start line though and my stress over the timing helped take away some of the stress of the race. As we waited for the previous heat to finish though, I found myself unable to take deep breaths and breath how I wanted to, as had been the case all week. 400 meters into the race I was already feeling it. I was in last in the last heat of a race of like 250 people. I thought it was going to be horrible and that I would blow up and be last overall. I passed one girl just to try to prevent that scenario and hung around in second to last. After that I just kept trying to pass people to try and ensure that I wouldn't lose the whole thing. I gradually sped up and before I knew it I was down to the last couple laps. I picked off most of the field and surged past Hannah in the last 200. I don't know my splits but from what I remember, the first 200 was 41 or 42 maybe? I think 400 might have been like 1:25? 800 was definitely 2:55 and that's all I remember.

Anyways, I was really pleased and shocked with this result. I haven't been feeling in shape and this was super hard, but I PRed by 9 seconds!!! It's really awesome to be running a big PR in early February, particularly given that I don't feel like I'm in great shape. I wasn't feeling confident at all going in because of all the time I missed for illness and all of the breathing issues all week, so I'm really glad that I didn't give up and was able to push myself in the moment. This might be the end of my indoor season, but if so, it was a great way to end it. Also super proud of my training buddies- Hannah was a second behind me, her best time since high school, and David ran way faster than he expected to as well.
