Spartan Track and Field Invitational 2018

Weather: Too cold for a track race lol

Comments:
Today, I ran the Spartan Track and Field Invitational. With a party the night before (which I didn't drink at #HydrateOrDydrate) and some pretty chilly weather, I came in initially with some negative expectations. I was actually pretty nervous going in. But with the power of Coach Diener and Run Gum anything is possible.

Warm up: I woke up, ate some breakfast, and met Wes and Brett at the track. I showed up probably a little later than I wanted to and didn't run my usual 15-20 minutes. But Coach Diener put me through some good drills that got me warmed up and ready to go.

Race: I went out of the race, making sure not to get caught in the back, but also not lead. I was in the 2nd heat, so I figured someone would drag it out and luckily they did. We went through the first lap in 65-66, which was right on pace. I then hit 800m at 2:12 and did my usual mid-race push. The lung felt cold, but my body was moving hard. A kid from Central shot out to the lead and hammered away, but I stayed consistently in 4th or 5th. I hit one lap to go in 3:01 and tried to keep hammering on. Down the final back stretch, I battled an SVSU kid and unfortunately lost, but came through in a new PR of 4:07.92. A solid 1 second PR, 4th place in the heat, and 12th over. I dicked on a ton of MSU guys this time around. All of their unattached guys ran in the like 4:10 and even some of their actual guys ran like dick too. I understand they probably had a workout, but fucccccck man at least run in low 4:00s smh.

But yeah, overall I'm very satisfied with this race. I managed to get beat my PR and get closer to the club record. Hopefully, Paolo and I will battle to take that down at NIRCA Nationals next week. I'm feeling fit and confident going into this outdoor season. Good opener, good day in the office!

Also no idea if any of my warmup or cool down stuff is accurate, I timed nothing lol.
