Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Run

April 13, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Sunny, low 60s, beautiful

Comments:
5th annual Cherry Point Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month '5k'. Well set up, just like last year. Beautiful running weather; legitimately my favorite for racing. Minimal warm up- haven't been running more than 3 miles at a time lately, but I did get the blood flowing and get a few strides in. Didn't lose many places even with a 1 minute positive split on an out an back 3 mile course. Legs did not feel good at all and I could feel the lactic acid coming on about 4 minutes in which was a bit early for a 5k. Hit the half at 9:42 at about the anticipated effort, but with a slower time than I expected. Had a decent kick at the end; one of the Marines made it a challenge. Calves in particular felt this one. walked out a bit but that was about all the cool down I got in before heading to work. Need to get out the door for runs more consistently, which was kind of the point: I wanted to see just how out of shape I am. Verdict: very, but not a bad day given that that was the case. Race was faster up front this year so I will really have to work if I want to make it into the top 3 next year.
