The First One

August 21, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Hot

Comments:
I am backlogging this four years after the fact. If you are reading this, you should do your homework, or something else. I have fond memories of this run. It was my first run with the team outside of STA. I'm pretty sure that Tristan told me I was wearing bad shoes (Nike Free) and that we did Sacred Leaf Hunting Grounds. We ran in the woods alongside the road for a time, and got a little lost. It might have been on this run someone called Tristan "blindfolded Anthony." Anyways, I think this run represents so many things about the GDS running community that are useful. Seniors caring about freshmen, bonding with people you've never seen before, general randomness, etc. Hopefully what I just said doesn't sound too far off of your realities.

There are so many runs that now I am the sole remaining team member who was on them. All the runs just sort of wash away. People graduate- hold onto the teammates you have- you don't get that many of them. Not all runs need to be remembered, thats what makes the special ones special, but I nonetheless think it useful to try and hold on to some of these. If you're still reading, enjoy your time on the team- tell a story, play a game, ask about what your seniors were like when they were freshmen. Keep the collective memory, and make new memories. Do not forget that we are a team. Revel in that and have fun. Silence on runs is ok. 58-62 is the best running weather. Trails are superior to everything else. Don't be afraid to have deep conversations about inane or microscopically irrelevant topics. Never stop asking: What does it feel like to be a bat? Good luck, and run good.
