Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Warm .... ish
Comments:
Met up with a longtime friend, Jason - who was incremental in my intro to ultra running in 2010 ... Jason and I would run quite a bit together from 2010 to 2011.
Anywho, he lives in Papua New Guinea (MA in Lingustics from Trinity Western in Canada) and does Bible Translation, meaning, he lives among the most remote people groups - who have no written language and helps them create a written language and then translate that language into their own Bible. Linguistics/Translation is a fascinating study. It was cool to hear about Jason’s 4+yrs over there (he, wife, and his FIVE KIDS!) are getting ready to head back to PNG July 17th.
As for running, fun to start at the top of SC, run to the bottom of the confluence and hook up with/hike up K2. A TON of WS “stoke-lings” out and about - my goodness. The canyon was filled with “Trucker Hats” and “10gal hydration packs”. Sheesh! It felt like Kramer trying to swim in the East River!
All in all, great run and good talks with Jason (who, by the way, STILL runs trails in Vibram Fivefingers!) that was fun to see and brought back a ton of memories of 2010/11 where he’d be in the Vibrams and I’d be rocking the NB MT 100/101’s. I do miss minimalism running .....
