it's about the miles. always about the miles.

July 8, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Comments:
Biked the half ironman course - the same one that I did last year. Only had minimal PTSD - didn't recognize most of the course. However, I did experience some PTSD when I had to go up this long and steep hill where I was literally going only 7 or 8 mph. THEN, I was reminded of why I disliked this bike course so much... Although you do a lot of climbing, you don't get rewarded with equal downhills. This is because at the bottom the hills there is usually a stop sign or a turn, so you gotta ride your brake the whole way down. So yeah, this course is quite the character builder because of that. So after going up this one particular hill, you get to ride your brake down a long downhill, then take a sharp left and go up ANOTHER hill! Unreal.

However, later in the course there was this GNARLY downhill that DIDN'T have a stop sign or turn at the bottom, so I was able to max my speed. Hit a peak of 44.9 mph. Lots of fun. Not quite my record though - I hit 46.9 mph a couple of years ago.

Once again, my overall avg speed was 19.2 mph. Pretty damn consistent, even thought this is a pretty slow course (there was a turn about every 3 miles). 114.90 miles on the week.
