THUNDERSTRUCK

July 16, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: High 70s and Humid

Comments:
Before I leave work to go home, I check the GPS. I definitely know how to get back to the Ginstes from Troy by now in multiple different ways, but traffic always varies. So, the GPS told me I'd be back in 21 minutes (pretty good for 4:10pm) if I took I-75. My gas light was on too, so I'd have to stop and get some gas, but not a big deal.

So, I got on I-75. I get onto the high way and probably go for a mile before I see that the sky ahead is completely dark af. I noticed my outside temperature reading on my car is dropping pretty drastically (it dropped from 88 to 69 in about 10 minutes).

'Well hopefully I can get off the highway before this storm hits" I thought to myself, immediately before having to suddenly stop, due to traffic. FUCK! The clouds were looking damn nasty and they were coming in hot. SInce I was stopped, I took another look at my GPS and in red letters the time changed to 40 minutes. I was literally only 4 miles away from my exist. FUCK again.

So before I know it, it starts rains just a little bit and then just down pours hard. I hear the thunder rolling in and see some lightning. Now, I normally really like storm, fuck I've run through storms and wanted to be a storm chaser when I was in 3rd grade. But I really HATE bad whether while driving. And now suddenly I'm stuck in traffic and I can barely see anything, because the rain is just hammering down.

Eventually after 20 minutes, I manage to get off the high way and it stills down pouring hard. I'm moving slow af behind several cars with their hazard lights on and I can hardly see shit. Then I remember that I needed to get gas. I was probably about 10 miles from empty. So I manage to find a gas station about 5 minutes later. Now I'm pretty sure I heard that you're not supposed to put gas in your car during a thunder storm, but fuck it i had to do it. So i immediately start filling up my car, when suddenly I see the closest flash of lightning I have ever seen in my life. The lightning was so close that I actually thought i was about to get hit for a second. I actually saw it hit the side of the road ahead of me, and I just about bolted away ready for the whole place to blow. But luckily, I'm horrible at judging anything, so obviously i did not get struck by lightning. But i quickly put $15 of gas into my car and SKKKKKRR SKKKKKR the fuck out of there. Man too many near death experiences this week. I went home and immediately took a nap.

Once I got back, I saw the weather had cleared up completely. The sky was blue and it looked like a storm had never even hit. Bastard mother nature. So I went on an 8 mile run on a route. I went up Kern Road and into Bald Mountain Recreation Area. It was a beautiful route with a ton of rolling hills. Even after a long run and some bad humidity (though it was on a treadmill, I know I'm soft af), I felt really good. I came back absolutely drenched from the humidity, but now i'm about to go make some Mac n Cheese, so life is good.

Also, I'm pumped for the Mattawan 5K in a few weeks. The field is looking stacked, so odds of reclaiming my 2014 title are pretty low, but ya gotta love a 5K in the Twan. I skipped the race in 2017; but since my 2014 win, I got 2nd in 2015, and 3rd in 2016 (when Old Man Blosser sauced me). So, that probably means I'm probably projected to get 4th. I GOTTA TURN THE TIDES MAN! I will not let patterns fuck me over like the Big Smiles 5K did (2nd, 4th, 2nd, 4th, 2nd)

Ok, this log has gotten way too long for a casual run. Have a great day loggers!
