In words of inspiration from The Whinnedog:
Always training towards my title shot.
3 weeks until I head out to Cleveland, OH for my title shot. I will likely not win the belt, but I will do everything I can to get as close as possible. Training has been quality and I #DidTheMath based off my swim and bike last weekend and I think I am in good shape.
Today, immediately after getting off the bike, I went out and ran. I wanted to get a race feel, so I went mile at race effort (that would be 10k pace, but following swimming and biking races of course), mile easy, mile race effort, mile easy, mile a bit a faster than race effort, and then the rest easy. Splits:
5:27
6:54
5:23
7:10
5:15
7:18
3:40 (0.54)
So this was really good, considering it was right off the bike. If I can hold 5:30's for the actual race I think I will be right there challenging for the belt. Honestly it's gonna come down to how fast I can get my bike moving. But the fact that I averaged 22.5 mph over 56 miles in Door County and I am going to have to go less than half that distance in CLE has me feeling confident. A same speed swim, 23 mph bike, and a 35:00 10k should be legit, reasonable, and have me up there. But talk is cheap. Losers make excuses winners make it happen (thank you based Bubba Sparxxx). Big things coming.
