An Update

August 21, 2018 (Night)

Exercise Type: Swim

Comments:
Before, during, and after my run last Wednesday I felt absolutely fine. But then I woke up Thursday morning with pain in my lower left calf and achilles, and I knew I had to shut things down until things got better. I've had this strain or whatever you want to call it before and the only thing I can do is absolutely nothing. However, it also hurt to walk normally so I had to be careful about that. And I couldn't bike or swim either. So, since that Thursday morning, I have done nothing but dick around, stare at my computer, and play vidya. I hate it so much. Exercise/working out is something I actually NEED in my life, and without it my mind is not in a good state. This is especially important since I spend most of my day staring at screens, and running/swimming/biking is when I can get away from that. Soooo I have been quite miserable and hating everything for almost the last week.

This weekend was the worst. All I mostly did was play vidya (Ratchet and Clank and NFL Street 2). I didn't leave my house from the time I came home from the office on Friday to when I went to my cousin's house for dinner on Sunday evening.

Things in my calf/achilles have slowly gotten better to the point where I could get in the pool a little bit tonight, being careful with how hard I push off the walls. My calf pain is almost entirely gone but there is still some pain lingering in the achilles. I am optimistic I'll be ok to run tomorrow. But we'll see. I can tell right away if things are going to be ok or not.

This will give me about a week and a half to prepare myself for my return to the marathon distance. Having run a total of about 80 miles the last 3 weeks is not very reassuring, but we'll see what happens. My original goal was to be competitive with winning the thing but at this point as long as I get that BQ I'll be happy.

And to top things off, unless there is a miracle it does not look like my Paul Chelimo singlet will arrive in time for the race.
