Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50s
Comments:
Well damn. I didn't expect to run as fast as I did last year. Fuck, I managed to run a one second PR. I totally thought after my horribly inconsistent August and loss of motivation for a solid month that I was not going to return to form. But nonetheless, RVP is back and better than ever before. Here's the run down.
Warm Up:
So, I drove Paolo and Liz to the meet and in all honesty I deadass didn't the travel email from Austin lmao. I clicked on all links and read the leave time/travel plans but yeah nothing else. "But Riley, did you BOLD EVERYTIME TO ALWAYS READ THE ENTIRE TRAVEL EMAIL" a reasonable person might ask. Absolutely, but I gooned out.
So, I managed to pull a JB and put the wrong address in. We were already 15-20 minutes behind schedule and we went like 15 minutes of the way. Then when we finally got into the park, I still managed to not read Austin's directions and we got lost smoother. Just to think, i made it there without a problem last and wow I'm an idiot. But we made it over there with about an hour or so to spare.
I grabbed our bibs and waited in a long bathroom line to get my pre-race poo in. I was talking to this Ohio State kid who informed me that his HS team used to practice getting pre race poos out in 40 seconds or less. I didn't believe him, but i timed him and the man was out within 38 seconds. Fuck animal and it took me a solid 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I'm trash. After the poo, I warmed up for 2 miles and did the most half assed dynamic stretched of my life. I was feeling pretty solid, consider I skipped the workout on Thursday but didn't feel warmed up enough. All I knew was that I was gonna try to go out with Tyler and hope for the best.
Race:
The race started and I immediately got behind Tyler and Red Cap. I figured it would be a good place to start off and hopefully be able to run a good time. The weather was feeling good, as Chris Chavez would say "the legs were feeling good" and I figured I could probably at least break 28 minutes. I hit the one mile at 5:18, just a little behind Red Cap and Tyler and made an effort to get up with them after the first hill.
A little before mile 2, I caught up with both of them and we started running together. At that point, Mitch who went out harder also joined our pack and we ran 4 wide. This was honestly my favorite part of the race, because I felt so dope rolling up my Spartan War Dawgs. I just imagined if we had Garrett, Billy, and Robby in the race we would've been an even greater, more intimidating pack. We came through 2 miles at 10:45.
After 2 miles, I didn't expect the next hill to come up so fast. I suddenly put it in my head that we'd have to run up the hill for more than twice. So, I definitely took it up slowly and let Red Cap and Tyler get ahead of me by quite a bit. After that, I was never able to get back up with them. I ended up running behind some Miami of Ohio kids for the next part of the race. I hit 3 miles at 16:23.
After the 3 mile mark, I was trying to make moves but I was feeling it a bit. All I could was surge and drop. But man did I aggressively surge and drop. There 2 Miami of Ohio kids that were running together and I'd surge past them and then they'd surge past me. This happened at least 5-6 times, but it kept me moving and kept my overall pace fairly consistent despite the inconsistency. Every time I dropped and they would pass me I'd yell in my head in the most Anakin Sky Walker way "NOOOOOOOOOOO" and sprint again. Wild stuff.
With 400 to go, i made a huge move. I burst past the Miami kids for a final time and one of the kids yelled "UGGGGH FUCK YOU MAN". Lmao, I pissed them off so much. All about the dick and drop culture baby! But anyways, I also passed a group of 10 guys right at the end and produced an amazing/dramatic RVP kick to the finish. I saw the clock in the low 27s and knew that I was back baby! Similar to last year, I yelled at the line.
After Thoughts:
Well damn , I really pulled that one off nicely. I'm really happy to be back in low 27 form and hopefully this means I can break 27 before the season is over. I feel like a Top 7 contender again (finished 4th on the team behind Paolo, Red Cap, and Tyler) and yeah just overall feeling good.
Shout to Charlotte for breaking the 6K club record. None of us even realized this until she walked up to me and casually said "I think I broke the club record". I checked and sure enough she bettered Erin's by 6 seconds. Damn, I can't believe no one even realized it. She did have an insane kick and snag 3rd place too.
Overall super happy with today. I also had a wild night last night, but I'm gonna save that for my log later tonight. Shoutouts to the log boiz (Paolo, T-Cook, Austin, and Garmin) for some killer performances.
