DCXC

September 29, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I'm really sad that this was my last DCXC, but I'll be back racing at Kenilworth in a month so I'm not too sad. I REALLY wanted to PR during this race, but once we jogged the course in the morning I knew that a PR wasn't possible. The mud was horrible, and the times weren't as fast as I'd expected for the morning races.
I had an amazing 6 hours of cheering with Maddi, Joyce, and Ana before our race. I went into this race expecting to run somewhere between 19:50 - 20:55. Even though I ran 21:41 I'm really happy with my race. This was the first race I've ever run where I got to mile #2 and felt like I was in complete control. My breathing was even and I felt like my form was better than it normally is during a race. I have no idea what my splits were but I'd be a little surprised if my third mile wasn't my fastest... or at least close to what my first mile was.
The cheering during our race was AMAZING. I just felt so supported throughout the entire race. At mile #1 and #2.5 Mark told me I was in 21st place. I ran with the same pack of four girls the entire race. It was a really interesting experience to run the entire race with a pack of girls of which I knew nothing about. the first half mile I kept overanalyzing which one of us was fastest, but that thought quickly vanished when I realized that the point of the race was to figure that out.
I ended up getting 20th. I was happy with my place because I thought I would only medal if I got a PR. I beat 2/4 girls I ran the race with, and we all talked and congratulated each other after the finish line.
I felt really powerful during my kick, which is always a nice feeling. Taking Sunday off because my legs are still stiff after navigating all the mud (i'm writing this on sunday).
