Belmont Plateau 8k

October 13, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Felt awful before the race. My legs have been hurting all week and I felt sick before the race during the day. Once the gun went off though, I felt awesome for some reason. All of those feelings had gone away and the feeling of that was just so amazing. I went out consistently--a very hilly course and started with a 6:05 and a 6:00. Third mile was just as strong, but then approaching mile 4, my right spike came untied. I was so distracted I decelerated a lot at that point. I'm really upset with myself because I was feeling so strong and on my way to a great race on a really challenging course, but I just couldn't race strong while it was on my mind. I should've just gotten over it and I'm super frustrated at what this race could've been. But, it doesn't matter because that's not what happened. Now I'm prepared for it if it happens again. The time ended up being pretty good for this course, which is much much harder than Paul Short was two weeks ago. I'm excited for conferences now, I feel like I have personal unfinished business from this race. This week will be tough not training with the goats, but it'll be nice running on familiar roads. Hopefully I'll be able to iron out this leg issue (a lot of hip flexor/groin area tightness) this week.
