Hot and Sunny

October 17, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Starting for Aisha’s apartment I explored the hills on the far side of the valley from the Stadium to Vratnik. Most of it was in the sun and weather was probably in the 70s. The streets on the slopes leading up to the TV/radio towers are incredibly steep and I realized I have definitely not recovered from Sunday’s mountain marathon. Felt slow and fatigued almost the entire run, though that curtail my urge to explore. I ended up making it an hour longer than I had intended, in part I stubbornly wanted to get to the absolute top of the impossibly steep road I was on and also because I kept discovering cool little neighborhoods even a trail that led back into some farmland hidden in the hills. We all know I’m a sucker for new trails. The parkway through the forest above Vratnik is really lovely. In the end, I accomplished three goals that have been germinating for weeks: 1) I took ran up the rocky slope to the radio tower I’d been but hadn’t ventured on two weeks ago, 2) I figured out how the run Aisha and I had gone that week connects back to the areas I’m more familiar with, and 3) I managed to reach the Yellow Bastion, a piece of the 15th century Vratnik fortress that I can see from the courtyard of my apartment and which looks really inviting and which I’d tried and failed to get to before. All in all, a tiring but highly worthwhile run.
