England Expects Every Man...

October 27, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Quite the day. There are a great many emotions with me today. I asked the boys at the line to make today a race that 'they' would remember. Breaking a three way tie on the backs of the top 5, plus Siff and I, counts as such.
Knowing how much experience and veteran leadership we lost this year, I knew it would be an interesting and difficult season. We surpassed those initial expectations, and then Satola got hurt. Once again, I thought that we had no shot at anything, and then we exceeded my wildest expectations.

I've been thinking about past teams, and just how different this one feels in some regards, is remarkable. It has been a struggle for me to get my message across to the team at times, for reasons I will not elaborate on here, but today is nonetheless immensely gratifying. I also thought about what this day was like for Matt I and Noah Kravitz, Jackson and Josh, and last years seniors as well. I'm not sure what they thought today, but I sense that for them, it was a whirlwind of emotions, stress and a bittersweetness about it, just as I feel today.

I did not expect this result, and said so at the line, but I am, for once, optimistic about the future of this team. We return 7 hopefully healthy Varsity 7 runners from a 2nd place team. By no means do I think we are favored, but we have a real shot.

I've also done some thinking about my seasons here. In the beginning, I wanted to be Captain, score for the Varsity 7 at MACs my senior year(Maybe win a banner), and be MVP. I care less about MVP today, but the other two are still just as meaningful, and that is satisfying beyond measure. There have been setbacks and dissatisfying moments as well. The fact that I ran a time today that was only 14 seconds faster than the end of freshman year is one of those. Despite those thoughts coming up now, I will save the real reflective log for next week.

I think Admiral Nelson would have been proud of the job we did today,
