Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Met up with Sammy Klein and David Bergreen (both GDS '14) for a run in Tenleytown this evening. On Tuesday I wrote in a rather whimsical, magical realist, stream-of-consciousness post that I'd run the 39th street loop, Geico Loop, and No Exit loop all in one run on the way to the Secret Park, but this time we actually DID run all those loops...or at least parts of them... or at least we tried to. None of us could quite remember where any of them went. We managed to find 39th Street just fine after crossing through the backside of Ft. Reno, which I think is traditionally part of that loop, but we were having so much fun we continued on into Maryland and eventually ended up on one of those dead-end streets behind Friendship Heights that I think was part of the No-Exit Loop at one time. We crossed Wisconsin and cut up through the neighborhood behind Meiwah and Chipotle where Chevy Chase Running Company used to before I inadvertently drove them out of business (feel free to ask me about this), and then attempted rather unsuccessfully to recreate the Geico Loop in reverse, by which I mean we cut across Geico's lawn, found ourselves trapped in a dead-end maze of 1980s corporate architecture, and eventually ended up just running through their parking lot (when Anthony leads this run I'm pretty sure a secret trail usually materializes...). We then came up through 44th Street which is probably part of some loop we used to do (the Winter Loop?) till we reached the back corner of GDS and jogged up River to the Metro.
I caught one leaf! That brings me to 27 for the day, my favorite number. Maybe even a one-day PR. Hannah Avidon, is that my PR? Perhaps there's something higher recorded in my sophomore year running log.
I now feel so much smarter than when I started this run. Sammy and David have given me a thorough education in US foreign policy, healthcare patent law, and the election for Montgomery County supervisor. My main function was to give off the aura of being older and wiser of them by adjudicating policy disputes they had with semi-relevant semi-made-up facts.
