Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
coaches didn't want me to race all out because they didn't want to have to worry about any of my medical issues, despite a note from the doctor saying there was no risk. so I pretty much tempoed it. nice to be out on a beautiful day and see teammates run well and see Zeke make his triumphant return. I'm happy I went and I had a good time.
Pete and I compromised on me pacing Avivah for most of it, and if I felt good I could pick it up a little after a while, but not go all out. I ran with her for most of it, till we got out of the woods loop (where it's pretty quiet and a pacer is most useful) and then I picked it up a little bit, but I wasn't really in a racing mindset after pep talking Avivah for the first like 20 minutes. I ran faster, but not that much faster, and crossed the line feeling perfectly fine, having been able to talk at least a little the entire time. Pete was happy, so that's good.
It was a bit frustrating to not get to go all out and push myself, but it wasn't worth arguing about. I'm also sort of resigning myself to not really having much success in racing. There are so many thing that can go wrong in my body. I think I just need to stop caring so much about time or achievement and appreciate working hard for the sake of working hard and training for the sake of training. the past couple of weeks have definitely put things in perspective for me, since I haven't really been able to care about doing well in running since I've been so preoccupied with making it through the day/week/semester. And I'm definitely appreciating running for its ability to give me an hour or two of feeling almost like my old self. there are a lot of good things about running apart from PRing or running fast or feeling good, and I need to focus on those. Who knows how I'll be doing in a year, but if I'm lucky, I'll have found a set of medications that more or less work, and maybe then I can hope for running fast again. Sorry for all of the angst. It's been a really long couple weeks and I truly am so grateful that running has given me some respite.
