Whetting the appetite

November 22, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Unlike the spirity and motivated Gunthers, my family’s idea of a a good Thanksgiving morning is one spent asleep or reading the newspaper, so there were no 8am Turkey Trots in the Simonson household. However, like the Smurf, I like to prepare for rogue of eating known as Thanksgiving by running to get my appetite up. So when I finally rolled out of bed at 10:30, I was a man on a mission—a mission to make myself hungry—4 degree windchill be damned. My family and I are staying with family friends in Woods Hole on Cape Cod, so my run consisted of running along the Cape Cod bike path, the beach, and some little trails around brackish ponds. I didn’t really have a plan when I started but the longer the run went, the longer I wanted to run. I kept getting to logical turn around points and extending. Having a good playlist helped, but it was so cold that my headphones kept freezing up, interrupting the music. I felt just fine thanks to the ski mask and spandex I was wearing. Windchill shmindchill. Definitely got windier and colder on the way back, but I pulled off a 6:08 mile on a measured stretch of the bike trail so that felt encouraging. I managed to catch 3 leaves this run in spite of the fact that I was wearing gloves. Even after 2 hours my legs felt great, in spite of 2 weeks off. I just love that feeling of being in swift sweet motion.
