Mile Race @ Holiday Meet

December 8, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Was really nervous for this race, and couldn't eat much for breakfast. I was seeded last in the third section--21 out of 21 racers. That didn't help with my angst about this race. But once we stepped inside the fieldhouse (I guess it helped a lot that the meet was at home), I felt much more at ease. Doing the standing dynamic drills helped me get in the right headspace for the race.

I went out fast... if I heard right, about 32 or 33 for the first 200m, and then I settled in to key off Nathan while maintaining the last position. I didn't let him get more than a second or so away from me (I think he only beat me by a second), which worked well but I also probably could've pushed more in the middle. I had a surprising amount of speed to kick with about 300m to go, and Nathan and I both passed Will during the kick. For some reason, running indoors actually felt really good, and I didn't mind the turns and the air wasn't all that bad. Much much better than the Flippin Fieldhouse!

In all, I'm super happy with this race. I feel like I could've run a faster time, but I also feel like I raced pretty smartly--2:30 at the 800 mark. Last year, on December 7th, I raced the 1600 at Episcopal in our first winter meet. Exactly a year later, today, I ran 13 seconds faster. 13 whole seconds. I really feel like I've come such a long way since then, and I can't wait to continue training and see what I can do the rest of this season and beyond. I cooled down with a Bryn Mawr Duck Pond with Amos, Jeff, and Max afterwards. Long run tomorrow.
