Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
After months of wondering when I'd get pulled over by police for suspicious activity, it finally happened. I was cruisin' downhill a Bosnian police cruiser was cruisin' up it. At first I didn't notice anything special about the car, just another vehicle to avoid, but when it didn't start to pull into the next lane to let me pass (I was running toward traffic along the shoulder) I started to hop up onto the snow-covered sidewallk at which point it flashed its headlights at me (though without putting on the overheads). I stopped and they rolled down a window and asked in Bosnian, "Exercising?" and I replied "yes, yes, running!" and they said "Go! Go!" And that was it! Although it may have seen pretty odd to them to be out running at 1 in the morning toward traffic along a major (though almost empty) road, my outfit was unmistakable. I don't think bad guys and robbers generally wear a headband, sweats, and a reflective vest. I'm not sure anyone in Bosnia does for that matter...

I finally did the run that I've been meaning to do all week. Gentle downhill out and back with no steep uphills, save for once climb at the very end to get home (and even that one was more like Brandywine than BK). I went out just before midnight which turned out to be ideal since the snow had stopped falling, the road had been plowed at least once (though still had some snow on it), and the cars were few and far between. I didn't try to tempo it, but I wanted to keep a good honest pace. Turns out I can still do at 7:10 average pace without breathing hard! Granted, it wasn't relaxed exactly, but it definitely didn't feel like a tempo. It was slow enough that I wasn't counting down the miles or minutes till I could stop. I felt good.
