Starting from the National Museum where I'd just gone to see the famed Sarajevo Haggadah (on view of like 2 hour per week), I headed north out of the city up Kosevo valley. Eventually I found myself in the hills above Vogosca, where, in spite of the amazingly warm air temperatures, I still had to contend with ice. I'd been pushing myself on the uphills trying to keep the pace tempo-like. Since having to watch out for ice in the dark kept me from maintaining a good pace on the downhills, I decided to turn it from a tempo run into a hill workout. I figured I'd been breathing heavily enough on those previous 3 uphills that I could reasonably count them as hill intervals, and I saw from the map that 3 more massive hills lay between me and home. Each was a good 2-3 minutes long. Ended up on a very muddy back road behind the Hum tower but succeeded in getting all the way back to downtown Sarajevo without having to run on a busy road. Felt pretty worn out when I got back, but decided to add on one more little hill (slowly) up to the Park Princeva restaurant and then an out-and-back on the Tranzit for a half mile in order to get to a nice long-run-sounding number of miles (running for 2 hours and not even reaching 14 felt like a let down). All in all, a solid night, but now I'm pretty sore and worn out.
