Really fun day today! Warmed up and ran to AU for time trials. Only Eli, Lyra, Leah, and I actually did them, but a lot of other people helped pace which was super nice. I did an 800 and Anthony and Annie (and maybe others) paced me. Didn't really know what time to expect, but was just hoping for under 3:10 because we haven't done much speed work yet, and I ran 3:19 a few weeks ago in a race where I was alone the entire time. Ran 3:07!! Only 2 seconds away from my PR, which means I definitely think I can PR in the spring season after some workouts. I think I ran it pretty well, definitely felt very tired after.
Then after a few cooldown laps I jumped in for 1.5 laps of Leah's mile, but she was moving at such a good pace that it felt quite hard since I was still tired from my 800, so I stopped and just cheered for her. I'm so so proud of her though—it was an amazing mile! Super fun to watch!!!
Then Nathaniel wanted to do a 100 time trial and a bunch of us joined him for fun. Ran 19.7 to confirm how much I am not a sprinter. :)
Ran back with Lauren. Really enjoyed how small the team was today (a bunch of people were at MUN) because it just felt supportive and cozy and had an xc vibe to it which was really nice. I love everyone so much. Such a good last day of winter track.
Some quick reflections on the season: it was really good! I always kinda dread winter track because it's such a letdown after how amazing xc is, and it will still never reach the height of the fall season, but I still managed to really enjoy myself. Even through freezing cold days, I rarely dreaded runs, and had a number of fun, memorable ones. I met some new people and made some new friends and worked hard. I only raced twice, but that's fine—that's not what this season (or any season, really) is about. But I think even without racing or many workouts, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in going into the spring, and I'm really excited to see what I can do in the next few months. My shins have been hurting a bit recently, but I'm hopeful that with some rest over this break, they'll be able to hold up through the spring.
