Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Aaaaaaaand, the Matt is back! Hopefully in the next couple hours he'll catch up on an entire month of log entries. Stay tuned!
Today's run was supposed to be a recovery. I guess you could call it that in the end, though I did feel some new aches and pains in my hamstrings which is not really what one hopes to encounter on a recovery day. The problem is it's just plain hard to do 80-90 miles in a week without running doubles, yet I've been stubbornly sticking to running once a day to avoid letting running eat up more time that should be dedicated to my research. I started the run from the PCRC offices and headed up North through Kosevo valley to Jezero. Just above the stadium I discovered... wait for it... a city park! With a trail! I didn't know Sarajevo had those! In fact, this might be the only once. The trail which had paved and dirt options side-by-side soon devolved into a muddy set of tire tracks through some uncultivated farmland, but it was all good as far as I was concerned. What a joy to be running on trails again with no mountains, snow, or landmines to worry about. Just mud! And mud is fun and squishy! Reminded me a bit of running the TAM at Middlebury during the summer I spend there. Jack, I'm sure, can relate.
There was a bit of galling uphill halfway through the run as I crossed the valley to the other side to come home, but I took it pretty slowly so hopefully, it won't impede my recovery too much. I had originally planned to go 12 miles but I think this is plenty. I'll make it up this weekend somehow. Overall, I think I managed to keep up a 7-7:30 effort on the non-uphill parts.
