Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
My friend Ismir and I are on a research trip this week and tonight we're staying in Bihac, a large town in the westernmost region of Bosnia. I headed out on a run after dark and though I figured my phone had sufficient battery I hadn't accounted for how the cold reduces iPhone batteries to useless hunk of metal in a matter of minutes. Thus, I realized less than halfway into my run that my battery was perilously low and I had no other way of finding my way back to the place we were staying, no other way of getting in touch with Ismir, and no landmarks or street names by which to navigate. Somehow through some quick glances at the map, a fast pace, and a very judicious use of my phone, I made it back. Oh, and I almost got attacked by an angry dog in front of the Bosnian military base, but I shouted "Please God someone HELP ME!" or something to that effect and the beast barrelled toward me and someone emerged at the last moment from the guard box and called it off. Not an experience I would have to repeat.
