Wolf!

February 21, 2019 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
This was a pretty strange run. I started from our Airbnb and ran down the hill toward the lake until an unleashed guard dog stood in the road barking and prevented me from going any farther. I'd been up since 5am driving around the country doing research and now it was almost 1am and I remember thinking to myself at once point as I battled my way on gruesomely steep hill "You don't work hard enough" and realizing how ridiculous that sounded. I started listening the soundtrack from Wicked which, aside from the gorgeous view of the lake, the town, and the stars, I probably what I'll most closely associate with the memory of this run. Oh, and the wolf. An actual wolf. In a cage in someone's yard. I initially thought it was a couger, then a dog, then a calf. I couldn't get too close because and actual dog stood guard next to its cage barking fearsomely. I worried I hadn't seen anything at all out of the ordinary and my eyes were playing tricks on me in my exhausted delirium and the magic of being alone at night. Thus, Ismir and I drove up there in the morning to check (a heroic use of my newly aquired stick-shift driving skills) and we saw that was definitely a wolf. A friendly one, by the looks of it. It seemed to want to get out of its cage and play.
