Fartlek

March 8, 2019 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I was feeling frisky this evening (at long last) so I set out to do some sort of workout, though I hadn't really decided when I started if it would be an interval workout or tempo. Ended up going pretty hard for 2-3 miles, then taking a break and easing off the pace as I neared the end of the Tranzit. I decided that instead of more tempo pieces I'd see if I could get onto the track at Safet Zajko at the far end of the city where I now was and if not I'd do a fartlek coming back along the main boulevard. As it happened, I ended up doing both. I did a 2:43 800m on the track and then just as I was finishing my recovery lap and planning to launch into 7 more of those (called "Yasso 800s") a security car showed up and shooed me off the track and out of the park, which has closed a good 15 minutes earlier. I then ran the following pickups coming home: 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 1200m, 1200m, 1200m. Those are all estimates actually based on time and I had longer the normal recoveries between them. Still it was a good workout (over 6 miles of hard counting the original tempo) and I was really pleased to finally be honing my aerobic capacity instead of just torturing my legs with miles and hills. Speaking of miles, I think I've finally gotten my brain to adapt to 12 miles being "normal."
