Easy run to start 11 week plan to win 2010 Midwinter 10-miler.

After about 3 months of mostly biking I'm mentally ready again to train at the level I need to run well, but I've got to start pretty slow and be smart about building up. So I'm using 11 weeks instead of 8-10 this time so I can be smart and ease back into it.

I ran the Turkey trot yesterday to see where my fitness was at. 3-mile race in 15:37. About what I expected, although mentally it's always tough losing a race when you know at your best you could be right up in it. That's two years in a row now I've showed up to the turkey trot in pretty bad form. But it showed me where I'm at and getting my ass kicked piece of it will simply help me train smart and hard the next 11 weeks.

Last winter I trained hard, but not smart and showed up to Midwinter way too tired. Still ran well(52:40), but showing up overtrained cost me the win last year and I didn't run anywhere near what I was capable of. Since I'm not running Beach to Beacon next summer, Midwinter is my goal race for the year. Why no B2B, well I'm focusing on the BUMPS hill climb series next summer. It's a road bike hill climbing series in New England up some of the toughest mountains with access roads. Since there is a race the same day as B2B, and I plan on winning that series, I'll be biking that day.
