Wow, I forgot how unfun stationery biking is

After a long and delightful day cheering on the GDS athletes at a big meet in Gathersburg, I hauled out the old stationary bike from whence it had been languishing in my parents’ garage. Gosh, it sure is an unpleasant way to pass the time. This must be how so many non-runners feel about running, boring and uncomfortable. After trying to distract myself with podcasts for the first 10 minutes I switched to reading news articles on my phone in the hopes that the greater level of mental engagement would take my mind off staring at my watch. Ultimately, I discovered scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed—something I rarely do—to be the best mode of making the minutes fly by since it involves more attention than listening to a podcast but less concentration than something actually educational.

I should add that I’m on the bike in the first place because my hamstring tendon in my right knee continues to plague me a week after I first hurt it on a long run. It had pretty much stopped hurting after three days off but then for some reason the plane flight reaggravated it as did they run on Friday
