Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Even an easy run to STA and back is can be an adventure when the right people get involved. Ana insisted we run the back way to St. Albans, a route that always leaves some leeway for creativity. Lucia pointed out a fake park that's actually a plot of land used for ventilating the metro that the city seized and bulldozed under eminent domain. Abby led us down a rather unconventional shortcut through the Cathedral Close down to the track by way of some cloistered gardens and pathways I hadn't seen since playing foxes and hounds many summers ago. On the way back, Nomi found us a beautiful secret spot to watch the sunset. We arrived just as the sun was hitting the horizon. I think I'll remember this run for a long time.
I think Ana might have been the only person to join me in both directions since I convinced her to stay and cheer for the entire meet. Jeff, Christian, Abby, Maddi, Ana, and Lucia ran with me on the way there (none of them were in the meet today) and then Sophie Axelrod, the hurdlers Ella and Rubie, Oliver, Charlie, Ana, and the one-and-only alum/coach/free-spirit Nomi Miller ran with me on the way back. The meet itself involved a good deal of running back and forth across the field as well in order to cheer 2 times every lap. Honestly, I'd trade any day of my training in Sarajevo for a day of this. There's nothing on earth more delightful than a run with this goofy group of hoppers.
