Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Cloudy 70 degrees
Comments:
Ran the 800 and the third leg of the 4x4. Weather was pretty nice the whole day but sitting around from noon to 5:00 was not fun. I was in the third out of five heats of the 800 and my seed time was 2:15. I had only run one 8 before this during the season where I ran it as a workout at Trojan Invite. There I ran a 2:18 with 69 splits each lap (nice). Back to Draper, the first lap felt good, went through in 65 in about 5th, once I hit 300 to go I started my kick and had passed everyone by the time we hit 200 left which felt good. The second lap ended up being 65 as well and I was actually .69 seconds off of breaking 2:10 (nice). I definitely had more left but I had no one near me so kicking was harder.
20 minutes later the 4x4 rolled around. I was really tired both mentally and physically after the 800 especially because I ran it tactically and it was my first real race of the season (rather than a workout recovering from meniscus tear). By the third leg we were in third but not by much which stressed me out because I'm not a sprinter and not fast at the 400. Everyone else running for us was 54 or faster and had been to Penn. The 400 was really hard and the last 200 sucked. I ended up running a 55.5 which is a PR. The gap between us and the first team increased by a bit but luckily Caleb brought it back and we won our heat. We ended up 4th overall and ran a faster time (something like 3:36) than our Penn team did which felt pretty good. A fun day overall but really exhausting, happy about the 2 PRs.
Also good work Baar on the 4:43 in the freshmen mile.
