A Farewell

May 23, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
So I guess this is goodbye.

It’s not really a goodbye though— This is a thank you.

I want to thank my seniors. I hope that my efforts have been in the image you set for the team.

I want to thank my freshmen, for showing me the future.

I want to thank this team, the 2018-19 team, for listening, being patient with me, and believing in the tradition. I know that the team is changing, but I am confident that your guidance and knowledge will help steer the course.

Thank you to the Class of 2018. I can’t describe how much I appreciate your contributions and wisdom. I’ve tried to take as much from your example on this team as I could.

Thank you to all of my captains. There were so many dynamic and wonderful people in this group that it is an injustice to cram you in together. I firmly believe that you did it right— you ensured that the next generation cared. In the end, I think that’s what this being captain thing is all about.

Thank you to my co-captains. We did some great things this season, some first rate organizing and great bonding. If I may say so myself, I think we did right by our teammates.

Thank you to my classmates. We went through so much together, thousands of miles, a thousand runs, a thousand days, and all of those memories.

Most importantly, I want to thank Anthony. I have no words to express my gratitude.

So now this is turning into a goodbye.

The little Jeff who got lost on his first senior run and had to get rescued by Jackson from running the wrong way down Mass, ran in Nike Frees, and knew no one would not recognize modestly taller(?) Jeff. I was never a great athlete, but running, this team, Anthony and all the others gave me a wonderful outlet. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity. I do not have adequate words to describe the experience I had here other than to say— I have had the time of my life and that I wouldn’t trade these four years for anything in the world.

The sun must now set for sunshine, for good on my competitive running career. This is also my last log, so I guess I’m saying goodbye to that as well.

Our motto must now read ‘Ran Good’ for me, but if you still run for us, then ‘Run Good.’

The last four years were a pleasure and an honor. I will miss being your teammate and captain. Thank you all for the privilege.
Sincerely,

Sunshine
