Papa-Son Ride + Andrea Hoffman

June 26, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Comments:
Mom gave Dad and I a ride to Rehobeth from whence we commenced a bike ride with the illustrious Andrea Hoffman. Andrea used to teach Latin at GDS (I think Evan replace here when she retired about 10 years ago), and her daughter Eva was on the XC and track teams with me. I apparently just missed seeing Eve who was up here the last two weekends. Actually, the Hoffmans called last Friday and asked if I wanted to join them at 7am the next morning in a road race but having just traveled across four countries with almost no sleep the last 2 nights, I declined. Had I come, I would not only have gotten free admission to a waterpark but would have gotten to see Eve win the women's division for the second weeks in a row, beating out a (one can only imagine) overly-entitled and fragile-egod 18-year-old who cried when Eve beat her the first time and then went out way to fast the next week in a doomed effort to turn the tables. Andrea, too, routinely wins for her age group. We biked for about 15 miles on the newly opened sections for the rail trail from Lewis to Georgetown and then after dropping off Andrea and her beach house in Rehobeth began the sunny highway ride back to Bethany. Dad sprung a flat tire for the second time this week and I sent me on ahead while he waited for Mom to pick him up. I managed to pull off a stunning pace heading south on Route 1, hitting 2:40 (24-miles per hour average) for two miles in a row, and keeping almost to that pace over the Indian River Inlet Bridge. I managed the entire 10 miles home at least a 20-mile per hour average, probably closer to 21 or 22 when you just consider the highway part.
