Swim w/ the Lil' Gunker Shmunker

June 27, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Swim

Comments:
Alix and I went for a swimmmm in the ocean, prompted by our parents showing up at the beach and starting an annoying conversation we didn't want be part of. We made it all the way down to the south end of the boardwalk and then back to north end and then back to our stuff again. Apparently we somehow missed our mother who had finally gotten in the water for the first time all week, no doubt realizing that chilly 65-degree ocean would be no more uncomfortable that then 90-degree heat under the umbrella. The Gunker Shmunker has always enjoyed swimming a lot more than I and for a while today it looked like she was better at it too; she left me behind several times and had to stop to wait for me to catch up. But our positions were reversed on our way back, due in part to her tendency to swim at crazy diagonal in or out from shore even more acutely than I. I did freestyle for the most part, with some breaststroke mixed in. Alix can beat me at the non-freestyle strokes I think, particularly backstroke if she doesn't manage to get herself turned around in the process. My breaststroke is decent, but by butterfly is about at the level of Abby Murphy's cartwheels. I didn't really love swimming today exactly, but it was more enjoyable once I got into a rhythm and my mind was focused on a song from Hamilton instead of counting my strokes. Afterwards, the Gunk and Mom attempted to teach me how to do the frog kick and side stroke properly. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.
